Rising Stars: Meet Chanda Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanda Moore

Hi Chanda , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Swing Chic Golf started when I identified a need for women’s golf apparel that would appeal to the new rise of golfers. Just in the last couple of years over 3 million people have picked up a club for the first time and a wide majority of those are women, people of color, and in the age group of 18-34. Swing Chic Golf adds fashion to the fairways, while hoping to give women the confidence to learn a new sport. Through social media I was introduced to a few young female golfers who aspired to use their golf skills to play on the collegiate level and use this as a vehicle to pay for their tuition. At first Swing Chic partnered with these girls through NIL agreements, where they would wear our apparel and we could use their image in our advertising. I was inspired by their drive and commitment and decided to form Swing Chic Foundation which would offer scholarships to female golfers that plan to play on the collegiate level.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a women’s golf brand owner the main obstacle is changing the image of what many people perceive as the “typical golfer”. Although many women have taken up the sport and formed social clubs centered around golf, we still are not taken as seriously as our male counterparts. Swing Chic Foundation regularly offers women’s clinics lead by PGA certified instructors that welcomes women who have never held a club to take a swing at something new!
When it comes to young girls that plan to use golf as a means to attend college, there are millions of dollars in collegiate scholarships left unused each year. For example, last year the NCAA estimated that only 250 out of approximately 1,800 girls golf scholarships were used. Another initiative of Swing Chic Foundation is to introduce girls ages 6-16 to the sport and develop skills through professional instruction. These girls also gain confidence and learn life skills through mentorship.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Although I have a degree in Fashion Merchandising, I have been in the classroom teaching for many years. The reason behind this pivot lies with my oldest child who has Autism. As a parent, I became very involved with his educational process and have a great understanding for those with Special Needs. Currently, I serve as a Board Member at the Rutledge Center where my son attends and I look forward to any chance to work with his friends and care givers. Swing Chic Foundation then added another initiative when I helped to start a golf program with the Special Needs adults at the Center. This has now grown into the addition of Golf into our County’s Special Olympics program. These Adaptive golfers love hitting the course and inspire me to continue to move forward!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One thing that may surprise people is that I aspired to be a designer for a luxury brand or work at a fashion magazine when I was in college pursuing my Fashion Merchandising career. I had dreams of leaving my home state of Virginia and either moving to New York, Paris or Milan and following my dream.
