Check Out Chef Pinky’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chef Pinky.

Hi Chef , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Chef Pinky, and food has always been my calling. For me, the kitchen wasn’t just a career; it was my sanctuary.

Growing up in Atlanta, life was a battle. I faced a challenging upbringing that pulled me into gang life and addiction at a young age. I experienced homelessness and poverty, but at 16, I made a decision that would change everything. I left home determined to break a generational curse and build a life on my own terms. I didn’t go to culinary school. I went to work.

For 16 years, I battled alcoholism, but I never stopped cooking. I rose through the ranks from fine dining to senior living facilities, earning my stripes as an Executive Chef. I am entirely self-taught, built by the heat of the line and the mentorship of chefs who knew that while technique matters, flavor matters more and people matter most.

When I finally got sober, my purpose shifted. I gained custody of my nephew, and raising him showed me what it truly means to lead. Today, he works right alongside me, and seeing that cycle broken means everything.

In 2016, I established Seared Pink as a woman-owned and LGBTQ+ business. We originally started as a meal prep company, driven by the belief that food should be healthy, intentional, and full of real flavor. However, as the business grew, we saw a massive demand for our catering services. In the face of a shifting economy and the need to grow despite financial challenges, I made the strategic choice to pivot. I knew that to truly scale and serve my community, I had to focus where my heart lived: catering.

Today, Seared Pink is globally inspired and fully customized. We don’t believe in set menus. Whether it is Italian, Mediterranean, Mexican, or American, we put the power back in your hands to eat exactly what you desire. Most importantly, we cater to all dietary needs. To us, a restriction is never a limitation. It is an opportunity to prove that flavor always comes first.

I fought hard to get here. Through addiction, homelessness, and doubt, I kept cooking. Now, through my business and our nonprofit partnerships, I get to share that gift with the world.

At Seared Pink, our tagline is: Flavor that means business. It is more than just a slogan. It is the future. And we are just getting started.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a business owner isn’t for the weak. Building a brand in a saturated market like Atlanta means you’re constantly in trying to get air. I had to learn how to grow in that noise while going with the flow of an unpredictable consumer market.

The real test came when I decided to pivot from meal prep to Corporate Catering. I was stepping into the unknown with no certainty of success, right as inflation was driving costs through the roof. At the same time, I became a new parent overnight when I gained custody of my nephew. Balancing the demands of a volatile economy with the responsibilities of a new family was a trial by fire.

I realized quickly that you have to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. You have to have the backbone to evolve when the market shifts and the heart to keep going when the numbers get tight.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
